Sebago Lake & Western Maine Lake Region
Septic tank pumping, backup response, and system service for homes and seasonal camps serving Bridgton, Naples, Casco, Raymond, Windham, Sebago, and surrounding lake region towns. Contact contractors directly.
Septic problems in the lake region often surface at the worst possible time — at camp opening, mid-summer with a full house, or during a heavy rain event that saturates the leach field. The cause is usually a full or failed tank, a blocked line, or an overloaded drain field.
Lakefront properties on Sebago Lake and connected waterways are subject to Maine DEP oversight when it comes to septic system proximity to the water. Any septic work — repair, replacement, or new installation — within 100 feet of a water body may require a permit. Routine pumping does not require a permit. For anything beyond pumping, contact your town's code enforcement officer before work begins.
Seasonal camps opened after a hard winter may have compromised septic systems — frozen lines, a cracked tank, or a drain field that never fully recovered from prior overloading. Spring pumping before seasonal occupants arrive is practical preventive maintenance, especially for properties with heavy fall use the prior season.
Maine requires septic haulers to be licensed through the Maine DEP. Ask any contractor whether they are a licensed septage hauler in Maine before they arrive. Unlicensed haulers may not have access to proper disposal facilities.
Most septic tanks serving a family of four should be pumped every two to three years. Seasonal properties used only in summer can sometimes go longer, but spring inspection after winter vacancy is worthwhile on older systems.
